Thought- Gratitude makes whatever you have enough!
Scripture- “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” Colossians 3:16
Insight: Gratitude= a great attitude. I think sometimes it is easy in this world to get into ruts, where negative thoughts can quickly permeate our thinking. We can get detoured by focusing on negative media stories, or by thinking about what we think we need, instead of being grateful for what we have. The truth is if we think this way, we are always chasing a mirage, and we will never have enough to satisfy us because our thinking is all wrong. However, when we are grateful, we are happy. When we are happy, we are content. When we are content, we are willing to serve others and put them first, which brings more happiness and contentment, in a virtuous circle of gratitude. Gratitude can stem from a thought of being thankful for what we have. As it says above in though of the day, gratitude can make whatever we have enough. We rest in the truth that we are ok, and we have all we truly need.
I many times focus on what I lack. I focus on having what I want, instead of wanting what I have. This is a spiritual attack that requires me to break these chains of bondage in my thought patterns. This is what Romans 12:2 means when it says we need to be “transformed by the renewing of our minds.” I believe each day we can find a few things, no matter how tough our circumstances might be at any given time, to be grateful for. If we thank God for them, He will bless us with a great attitude which will lead to happiness and contentment. Try it and see if it works. I am confident you won’t be disappointed.
Prayer: Father God, we admit many times we are not focused as much as we should be on being grateful for what you have given us. Many times, it seems easier to complain about what we lack, rather than praise you for what we have. Life can be very tough, and there can be difficult periods. But each day help us to find a few things that we are truly grateful for and let us praise you for them. Gratitude make whatever we have enough. We pray in Jesus name. Amen.
