Thought- “Genuine truth is not relative, whether we accept it or not.” Dr. Charles Stanley

Scripture- Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6

Insight: One of the common themes in today’s culture is the idea of moral relativism. You have probably heard it frequently mentioned something along the context of this: “I am glad that is true for you, but it is not true for me.” In other words, we individually get to decide on what truth is, based on the parameters we establish, and based on the framework of how we view the world. That is all well and good for many things, such as what colors you like, what your favorite food is, what type of movies or books you like, and all things of preference such as these. However, the big problem comes when we try to apply moral relativism to genuine truth, truth that God has declared which is not subjective at all, nor is based on our viewpoint or opinion at all. In fact, when Jesus proclaims above in John 14:6 that He is “the way, the truth and the life and no one come to the Father except through me,” you can protest all you want, you may become furious at such a statement, you can say that you need options for how to get to God and Heaven on your terms, and you can say that it is not true for you, but it doesn’t matter because it is what God has decreed. Being God, He gets to do that from time to time.

I get it that we like choices. I like choices on many things as much as anyone. However, when God sent His only Son Jesus into the world to take our sins upon His body on the Cross, through a painful, torturous and gruesome death, as the atoning sacrifice that allows us to be reconciled back to Him in Heaven for all of eternity, there is no 2nd choice! He doesn’t ask our opinion. It is not relative. It is genuine truth paid at an incalculable cost. He says I paid it all to show how much I love you; now won’t you accept my Son as the Sacrificial Lamb I sent to prove my love? That decision is the single most defining, eternally critical decision you will ever make in your life. It won’t matter what anyone else thinks or says. It only matters if you accept God’s ransom or not. So, do you?

Prayer: Father God, thank you for the chance to be reconciled to you forever through the blood and sacrifice of your Son Jesus on the Cross. It is your desire in 1 Timothy 2:4 that all, meaning everyone, will believe in Jesus as their Savior and be saved. This in not something that comes with a 2nd choice or a plan B. Amen!
